Glossary of Terms

A beginner's dictionary to understanding the technology, slang, and privacy concepts used across random cam networks.

BCDEINPSW

Bot (Automated Script)

A software program designed to perform automated tasks on chat sites. In the context of unmoderated platforms, bots usually paste pre-written text, spam links to paid adult sites, or broadcast pre-recorded video loops to mimic real human interaction.

Cam-to-Cam (C2C)

A specific type of connection where both users have their webcams active and are transmitting live video to each other simultaneously.

Doxxing

The malicious act of publicly revealing previously private personal information about an individual (such as their real name, home address, or workplace) without their consent. This is a primary risk in unmoderated spaces.

End-to-End Encryption (E2EE)

A secure communication method where only the communicating users can read the messages or view the video feed. While some secure messaging apps use this, most free random chat sites do not guarantee strict E2EE.

IP Leak

When your real IP address is exposed to the person you are chatting with, revealing your general geographic location (City/State) and Internet Service Provider. Using a reputable VPN is the standard method to prevent an IP leak.

No-Log VPN

A Virtual Private Network provider that explicitly promises not to collect, store, or sell data regarding your online activity, search history, or the websites you visit while connected to their servers.

Peer-to-Peer (P2P)

A network topology where two computers communicate directly with each other without routing data through a centralized server. Most modern webcam sites use P2P because it reduces latency (lag) and lowers server costs.

Sextortion (Scam)

A form of digital blackmail. A scammer lures a victim into performing explicit acts on camera, secretly records the feed, and then threatens to send the footage to the victim's family, friends, or employer unless a ransom (usually cryptocurrency) is paid.

WebRTC

Web Real-Time Communication. An open-source technology built directly into modern web browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari) that enables high-quality P2P video and audio streaming without requiring the user to download external plugins or apps.
